At the beginning of the year, several of our engineers gathered intending to share their knowledge and support young engineers in starting their professional careers. This team worked tediously to make this internship a fantastic experience that we could be proud of, to provide each individual with a real-life scenario of a day in the life of a Software engineering consultant. They created a program that would take the interns through all the steps they could encounter on the job - remote client, new team, and all of the meetings and requirements that are part of the full cycle of software development.
When the market became somewhat unstable, we thought about how many interns we should onboard, and should we even have the internship at all, but given that so much hard work was put into preparing it, there was no way that the end result could be anything but great. Perhaps just this internship and something they learned from Mirza, Fadil, or Selvedin, will help them in the next step in their career! This could not have been done without the passion of our mentors, our fantastic engineers who truly wanted to mold the future path of young software engineering professionals.
Leading this project was Mirza Selimović, and this is what he has to say about the entire experience:
"The first Reeinternship I organized and participated in was a challenging, educational, and growth-oriented journey. It all began with a vision and a goal which were to educate young people about what it takes to be a software engineer and what our industry and culture at Reeinvent are like. We faced many challenges along the way, but we overcame them with determination, cooperation, and unwavering support for each other. The key to our success has been our ability to learn and adapt. Every challenge turned into a chance for development, and every failure only strengthened our determination. This journey has equipped these young people with the skills, knowledge, and ability to face new challenges head-on. It has prepared us mentors to share our knowledge and to learn new technologies with young people as well."
This way of sharing knowledge, helps us shape the future of young generations, and provide them with some insights into the industry itself. What makes it even more important is that, apart from the technical skills, they had the opportunity to enhance their soft skills as well.
One of our interns, Naida Nožić, was particularly impressed by the welcoming and supportive atmosphere of the Reeinvent surrounding:
“Being a part of the REEInternship program has been a rewarding learning experience. I have had the privilege of working on a team project while exploring new and widely-used technologies in Software Development. Right from the start, I have been thoroughly impressed with the dedication of the mentors. They have consistently provided guidance and valuable feedback for each task assigned to the interns on the project. Additionally, the overall atmosphere at the REEInternship was welcoming and supportive, which made this experience even more memorable. I believe I have significantly expanded my technical skill set and feel more confident taking on new challenges in the future.”
Of course, the first time you do anything can be pretty scary, but the biggest lesson that we learned here is that being well-prepared, transparent, and working as a team is the key to overcoming any obstacle.
We have a lot of takeaways and ideas for future improvements and look forward to continuing with this program in the following summers!
